In 2003 (the latest year for which data is available), 1.3 million vehicles were stolen in the United States: approximately one every 25 seconds at a cost of $8.6 billion. Additionally in that same year $1.6 billion of property was stolen out of vehicles. Not to mention insurance and alternate transportation expense, aggravation and inconvenience. Nearly 40 percent of all larceny/theft incidents involve either motor vehicle accessories, or items stolen from motor vehicles: wallets and purses, CDs, stereos, laptop computers, etc*. Auto theft and content theft is a very big problem!
